ePassports

Electronic passports, otherwise known as ePassports, are the same in most ways to a traditional passport. The differentiating component is the addition of an extra level of security in the form of an embedded circuit, or chip. Whereas before, traditional passports provided a basic level of identification, the introduction of ePassports creates opportunities for high level security and global interoperability for border security.

Incorporating biometric verification, ePassports contain the same data and picture information found on the identifying page of the passport with options to store additional data onto the chip as well as unique ways to authenticate and verify the passport holder’s identity.
