Secure ID Cards

Governments worldwide are ramping up security in ID cards and driver’s licenses to combat identity fraud. Advanced features like laser-engraved personalization, guilloché patterns, and color-shifting inks make replication nearly impossible. Polycarbonate cards, resistant to tampering, are replacing traditional PVC in many countries.

Mobile Driver’s Licenses (mDLs) are emerging as a game-changer, allowing digital IDs stored securely on smartphones with biometric authentication. Meanwhile, RFID and NFC technologies enable quick verification at airports and border controls. UV and infrared markings remain critical for manual inspections, while embedded holograms deter forgers.

The shift toward centralized, high-security printing facilities ensures tighter control over card production. However, some nations are adopting decentralized issuance for faster processing. As fraudsters grow more sophisticated, governments must stay ahead with multi-layered security strategies.
